Overview

Formative empowers teachers by streamlining productivity and measuring daily student progress. The formative app, positioned between assessment and instruction, helps teachers design interactive digital assessments. Users can start with existing worksheets, making them interactive or by building from scratch. Student answers come back in real-time providing insightful perspective on class progress over time.

No one classroom is the same. Assessment creation flexes to meet the teacher's unique needs.

Over time the Formative architecture evolved from a list of assessments to a dashboard providing real-time classroom progress.

As defined by Carnegie Mellon University, The goal of formative assessment is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning. Our product interactions are designed to support key moments of the teacher/student journey.

Tagging assessments allow teachers to find personalized content in community libraries.

AI automation

Our assessment builder lets teachers customize their questions, settings and then present real-time lessons. Through user testing we learned that building a quiz or lesson was still a tedious process in the user journey. We also learned that the quicker an assessment is made and assigned, the better the chance teachers would assign their first and future assessments. Partnering with content creators and integrating with ChatGTP allowed us to reduce friction for our users and improve productivity and depth of content.

When a teacher is ready to assign an quiz or lesson they have a few options as to how they can interact with their classes. In lesson and presentation paced modes, teachers can control the class progression and facilitate discussion while giving real-time feedback on student responses.

The team conducted user research to understand how educators expected to leverage and navigate through educational data and insights. The app structure is designed to provide top down reporting on curriculum standards, and individual teacher/student performance over time.
